Wi-Fi Applications
Question 1. Can the ZG2100 be used to implement an access point (AP)? Answer. The ZG2100 for embedded Wi-Fi from ZeroG is not suitable for implementing an AP. It is suitable for low-bandwidth, low-data rate applications. Example applications are found at http://www.zerogwireless.com/applications/appsoverview.html
Question 2. In an appliance like a networked TV, does it make sense to also add the ZG2100 for remote control? Answer. Yes, it can make sense to use ZeroG technology to implement a remote control. In this case, the TV does not need the ZG2100 module. However, the remote control would use the ZG2100 to communicate with the access point and the TV. An example use model can be implemented with ZeroG through the use of an ad hoc network. The Wi-Fi remote control would connect to the access point to download programming guides on the internet. The ZG2100 chip inside the remote control would emit beacons to let the TV know that an ad hoc connection is possible. The TV then detects the ad hoc network and connects to the remote control. In this case, the TV does not have to be connected to the access point.
